H.E. Mr. Victor Chernomyrdin, a prominent Russian statesman, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary died on 3 November 2010 after a long illness.
Mr. Chernomyrdin was born on 9 April 1938. Chernomyrdin made his career in the oil and gas industry in the Orenburg region where he managed an enterprise (1973 – 1978). A member of the CPSU from 1961, in the 1980s he served as deputy minister, later Minister of the Gas Industry (1985 – 1989) and head of Tyumen gas extraction. He was a member of the CPSU Central Committee (1986 – 1990) and a deputy to the USSR Supreme Soviet (1987 – 1989). 1992-1998 – Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation. 2001-2009 – Russian Ambassador to the Ukraine and Special Representative of President of Russia for the development of trade and economic relations with the Ukraine. From 2009 – Special Representative of President for the economic cooperation with the CIS member-states.
Viktor Chernomyrdin is a great loss for Russia.
